AGE is committed to transforming the American Theatre canon by enhancing the representation of BIPOC playwrights of marginalized genders who are 40 years and older. We intentionally provide unrestricted grant funding, as we believe that when funders dictate the use of grant resources and impose complex documentation requirements, it undermines the autonomy of the recipients. Shared power is a fundamental principle for AGE. We recognize the complex history of oppression, trauma, and disempowerment experienced by BIPOC women and gender-diverse individuals.

For the purposes of this application, you are considered an emerging playwright as long as you’ve had one or fewer productions of a full-length play produced in a professional theatre (where union contracts are used). Productions at community theatres, where the artists are not compensated, do not impact your eligibility.
